Description of Developing Games in Java by David Brackeen PDF Book Review
The “Developing Games in Java, 1st Edition” is a wonderful book that gives good pointers for building great games. David Brackeen, Bret Barker and Lawrence Vanhelsuwe are the authors of this book. David Brackeen has a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of North Texas. He has created many games, level editors and multimedia products in Java. Developing Games in Java teaches you how to build from scratch, no engine, no openGL, pure programming as well as the general knowledge for any games designer for how to make effective and gripping games, This book is divided into three parts, first part discusses 2D graphics and animation, interactivity and user interfaces, sound effects and music.
There are some chapters on 3D graphics rather than going into details on Java3D. Last few chapters on the odds and ends of game programming, like optimization, creating art and sound. This is a great intermediate level book on writing games in Java. I would love to see the author or other writers build on this book to cover more advanced topics like those mentioned above, but you can use the information in this book and other great game programming references. In short, Developing Games in Java is a necessary book for Java game developers.
