Writing An Interpreter In Go by Thorsten Ball PDF Book Review
“Writing an Interpreter in Go” is a powerful book about Go programming language. It covers interpreters very well and even touches on best practices in software. Thorsten Ball is the author of this book. This is a great book for getting started writing an interpreter. This book enables readers to learn how to build an interpreter for a C-like programming language from scratch, what a lexer, a parser and an Abstract Syntax Tree (AST) are and how to build your own, what closures are and how and why they work, what the Pratt parsing technique and a recursive descent parser is, and what others talk about when they talk about built-in data structures. The code presented in the book is easy to understand, easy to extend, and easy to maintain.
This book only uses the Go standard library and write everything through this. The interpreter build in the book is fully tested, sometimes in TDD style. The author has a gift for teaching these complex programming subjects in an easily understandable way. In short, if you are interested in buliding an interpreter in Go, read this book.
